Jun 7, 2025 – Do Overs or Beginnings
Is your genealogy research frustrating you? Are you new to researching your family tree and feeling lost in the woods? Journey with me as I begin my own research journey.
I’ve been researching my family tree for many years. Along the way, I’ve lost my research more than once—first to a computer crash, and later, when my storage unit flooded and took my hard copies with it. Each time, I had to start over, and I’ll admit, my source citations since then have only been half-hearted at best.
Starting over from the beginning is tough. That’s why, when I discovered The Genealogy Do-Over Workbook by Thomas MacEntee (which I found on Amazon), it felt like just what I needed. For those new to genealogy, this book is a great way to learn how to do things right from the start. For those of us who’ve been at it for a while, it offers a chance to hit the reset button and begin again.
Some people choose just to “go over” their research, but I decided to embrace the “Do Over” approach—setting aside my old files and starting fresh with better habits and more thorough documentation.
Since I’m starting from the beginning again, I thought I’d share my journey through this blog. Maybe my experiences will help other researchers who are facing similar challenges or looking for a fresh start of their own.
